Music Icon Coming to SXSW Music Conference for Interview and Performance, Friday, March 20

American music icon, five-time Grammy Award winner and New York Times bestselling author Wynonna Judd is teaming up with her union, SAG-AFTRA, and South by Southwest (SXSW) for an  in-depth interview with NPR’s Ann Powers and a very special intimate performance at the 2015 SXSW Music Conference and Festival, both to take place on Friday, March 20.

Performing at this year’s SXSW Music Conference and Festival—a beacon for quality music—is something Wynonna has been eager to participate in for years and she will now have the opportunity to do so alongside her band, The Big Noise.

“I’ve been a SAG-AFTRA member since 1983, and the union continues to play an important role in my career,” says Wynonna. “After 30 years of being an artist, having this opportunity to perform at SXSW with my band is such amazing timing! I'm celebrating an important part of my musical journey and I’m honored that SAG-AFTRA is presenting our Stories And Song Tour to the attendees in Austin, where I first began singing with Mom on Austin City Limits back in the '80s. Life indeed has come full circle!"

“Wynonna is the embodiment of a SAG-AFTRA recording artist member: talented, dedicated, inspirational, legendary,” said Stefanie Taub, SAG-AFTRA national director of sound recordings. “We are thrilled that the union could help her fulfill a long-time career goal of performing at South by Southwest.”

“It’s just plain cool that this is happening. It’s going to be a very big night, for us, for her, for SXSW,” said SAG-AFTRA Vice President, Recording Artists and singer/songwriter Dan Navarro.

Wynonna, joined by her producer, husband and drummer Cactus Moser, will first sit down on March 20 with fellow SAG-AFTRA member and NPR Music’s critic and correspondent Ann Powers to talk about her career and future. This SXSW Interview, which is being presented in conjunction with SAG-AFTRA, will take place at 5 p.m. in the Austin Convention Center Room 12AB for an audience of Music and Platinum Badge holders.

Later that evening, Wynonna will take the stage with her band The Big Noise for a uniquely intimate performance showcase presented by SAG-AFTRA – the entertainment and media union that represents recording artists, actors and broadcasters – at St. David’s Bethell Hall (301 E 8th St). The showcase starts at 8 p.m. with various opening acts (Jay Nash, Hamish Anderson and others TBA) to perform before Wynonna takes the stage at around midnight.

Wynonna Judd has sold over 30 million albums worldwide over the course of her career. Charting countless singles including 20 #1 hits and over 60 industry awards such as the coveted Top Female Vocalist of the Year trophy at the ACM Awards in 1994, and was dubbed by Rolling Stone as “the greatest female country singer since Patsy Cline.” Wynonna and Moser are currently in the studio working on solo material for her highly anticipated eighth studio album, which will soon be released via Curb Records.

Both the interview and showcase will be open to Music and Platinum Badge holders. The showcase will be open to Music Wristband holders as well. Add her interview and showcase to your schedule today!
