Description:

Join the SAG-AFTRA LA Conservatory for Audition Style Prepared Reads - Multicam Comedy!

Multicam Comedy genre training in the form of prepared reads on-camera, with feedback and training, like an actual in-person audition.

Members can choose sides from the following database:
 

• MALE MULTICAM COMEDY
• FEMALE MULTICAM COMEDY

Non-Binary individuals can choose anything from either folders or bring their own as long as it is genre-appropriate.

Directions:

Please choose and prepare one scene as if for an audition; totally prepared, dressed for the part, off-book, and adapted for a taped audition environment. Bring two copies of the sides, one for yourself and the other highlighted for the reader. Bring a flash drive or SD card if you'd like to take the takes home with you.

Whether you're an actor setting your sights on joining an improv or sketch group, a performer wanting to polish your skills for commercial auditions,  OR you just want to open a door to greater creativity as a writer, director, etc., then this class is for YOU!

Air Force veteran and Second City Instructor BJ Lange brings 15 years of improv and teaching experience to lead the group in a safe and supportive setting, allowing students to grow in the advancement of their craft while building relationships and strengthening self-confidence.

What to expect in this class: 

• A strong introduction to the ‘kitchen sink’ application of improv comedy
• Get practice in “thinking on your feet” as a performer or public speaker
• Learn the “rules” of comedy improv - What makes it work… or not work
• Find new inspiration for writing and playing better characters/stories
• Strengthen your confidence by getting comfortable with the uncomfortable
• Lots of laughs and fun!

Directions: Please wear comfortable clothing to move in and closed toed shoes.

Join the SAG-AFTRA LA Conservatory for Acting in TV/Film Comedy with Michael D. Cohen!

In this class you will learn how to:

• Deepen your understanding of the different sub-genres of comedy and how to prep for each
   
• How to nail time and pacing when approaching a joke
   
• Bring authenticity 
   
• Improve audition technique and on set performance for comedies

Directions:
This is a hands-on workshop in which a few members will be asked from the audience to work at the front of the room. You may bring a comedic monologue or a prepared scene if you wish to volunteer. Please note this is a large class and not everyone will have the opportunity to work.

Description:

The Conservatory Intensive is back! This year’s event will be held September 27 - 29, 2024 at SAG-AFTRA Headquarters and we are looking for dedicated members to volunteer on Saturday and Sunday. 

We need your help in the following areas: Runners, Hospitality, Class Check-In, Set-up and Teardown 

As a volunteer, we ask for one 3-hour commitment in total over the weekend. All volunteers will get lunch, one t-shirt, a swag bag, priority in registering for classes and, of course, the fun of the Conservatory Intensive experience! 

If you are interested in becoming a volunteer, please join us for one of the mandatory volunteer orientations.
