Approximately 200 members attended the 4.5-hour event, joining the meeting via Zoom throughout the day. SAG-AFTRA Los Angeles Local President Jodi Long followed past practice by allowing members to present unreviewed questions and statements, also permitting as many members as possible to be heard before the meeting ended.
After Long welcomed the members and began the meeting, SAG-AFTRA member and military veteran Michael Gregory led the attendees in the pledge of allegiance.
L.A. Local Honors and Tributes Committee Chair Joe d’Angerio announced the presentation of the 2022 Los Angeles Local Ralph Morgan Award to member Connie Stevens on Nov. 22 and shared a brief video of the presentation.
Long then shared a recap of the various events and initiatives by the L.A. Local Board, as well as the challenges members faced during the pandemic. She also provided updates on SAG-AFTRA efforts to support our members with the burdens of self-taping, as well as on a survey being sent to members.
Following Long was L.A. Local First Vice President Sheryl Lee Ralph and L.A. Local Second Vice President David Jolliffe, who provided brief remarks and encouraged members to participate in the TV/Theatrical wages and working conditions meetings that would run from December 2022 through February 2023. L.A. Local Executive Director Serena Kung then introduced the Los Angeles Local staff and shared information about the core functions of the union as well as how members are served by SAG-AFTRA.
The presentation portion of the meeting concluded with remarks from SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher and National Executive Director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland, as well as Secretary-Treasurer Joely Fisher. They shared gains and achievements in national efforts as well as various legislative wins that have benefited SAG-AFTRA members across the country.
Long then opened up the meeting to members’ comments and questions. Advisory motions were made to the L.A. Local Board which will be discussed at its next meeting.
