Vic Ratner

As one of the primary voices of ABC News, broadcast veteran Vic Ratner wrapped up his 40-year career on Dec. 31. Ratner joined D.C.-based ABC News Radio in 1973 and has since covered news for ABC News Radio in 47 countries and 49 states.

Ratner covered the original Watergate burglary trial and the subsequent investigations, which led to the resignation of President Richard Nixon. Furthermore, Ratner and Bob Walker anchored live coverage of the Challenger explosion in January 1986. They are noted as the only radio broadcasters who went live when the shuttle exploded.

“He has covered every presidential campaign, political convention, inauguration and state of the union [address] since then, plus almost every space shuttle launch,” stated ABC News President Ben Sherwood.

Ratner is the recipient of a number of awards for his work, including the prestigious Ohio State Award and the National Headliner Award.

Ratner has been a member of the union for 47 years. He served on the Washington-Baltimore Executive Board of AFTRA, as well as the National Broadcast Steering Committee for more than 25 years in service to all of his broadcast colleagues.

The SAG-AFTRA Washington – Mid Atlantic Local congratulates Ratner on his remarkable career!
