Join Your Fellow New Mexico Union Brothers and Sisters.
Defend your rights and the rights of other hardworking New Mexicans.
Several new so-called “Right-to-Work” bills are being introduced tomorrow in the state senate. We highly encourage you to join your fellow New Mexico union brothers and sisters at the Roundhouse to let our legislators know that “Right-to-Work” is wrong for New Mexico. Bring your family and friends.
These so-called “Right-to-Work” measures attack workers’ rights to organize for better wages, health benefits, retirement security and safer working conditions. These laws are unfair, unnecessary and hurt the middle class.
What: Hearings on Senate Bills 482 and 483 (Employee Preference Act)
When: 1:30 p.m., Saturday, March 11
Where: The NM State Capitol (Roundhouse) – Exact room TBD
490 Old Santa Fe Trail (Corner of Paseo de Peralta and Old Santa Fe Trail)
Santa Fe, NM 87501
(Ample parking is available in the Roundhouse lot and the PERA lot across the street.)
Senate Bills 482 and 483 are slightly different variations of “Right-to-Work” measures that would cripple the ability of labor organizations to negotiate on behalf of New Mexico’s workers. These bills would restrict unions from collecting “fair share” or “agency” fees from nonmembers to cover the costs of the union’s legal obligation to represent those workers in collective bargaining and grievance procedures. They would also bar employers from exercising their right to hire union-trained and certified workers.
