It’s necessary that the House Ways and Means Committee hears from people in the industry in support of SB 173.
Dear Member,
The time for a massive show of force by email and in person is here. At noon on Monday, May 24, there will be a House Ways and Means Committee hearing of SB 173 at the Capitol. For the next four days, it’s necessary that the committee hears from people in the industry before Monday, as well as a high turnout of the bill’s supporters the day of the hearing.
A convincing win in this committee sets us up for one last passage on the House floor before going to Gov. John Bel Edwards for signage. LFEA has speakers lined up to speak in support of this bill, but a big show of force is still needed.
Here’s how you can help:
- Share your story. Get your fellow crew, vendors, business owners to email this group. Use the subject line “Film – Why It Matters to Me,” or something similar. Again, real people with real stories of economic impact are needed. The committee needs to know the economic impact the film industry has had on you, your family and community. Get your fellow crew members, vendors and business owners to email this group. Stats and details are located below.
- Attend Monday’s hearing and fill out a green card in support of SB 173. “FILM = JOBS” stickers will be handed out prior to the hearing, so please be on the lookout for distributors.
Interesting stats that support SB 173 –
- Our industry has delivered $700 million in earnings for Louisiana residents over the past two years, supporting nearly 10,000 jobs. We are job creators.
- The industry supported close to $1 billion in sales to Louisiana businesses in both 2019 and 2020.
- In 2020, every dollar of credits certified resulted in an additional $6.12 in sales to local businesses and $2.25 in earnings to Louisiana residents.
- According to the most recent report from the Lt. Governor’s office, up to $2.5 billion in annual tourism revenue may be attributed to the film industry. (Low-end estimate is $1 billion; high-end estimate is $2.5 billion)
