LOS ANGELES (June 9, 2010) - The Frank Nelson Sick and Benefit Fund of the Los Angeles Local of the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA, AFL-CIO) – a national union of more than 70,000 professional performers, recording artists and broadcast journalists today announced that former Los Angeles Laker and NBA Coach of the Year Byron Scott will host AFTRA’s Inaugural Frank Nelson Fund Celebrity Golf Classic on Monday, July 19, 2010, at the Mountain Gate County Club.

The event will bring together AFTRA performers, broadcasters, recording artists, athletes, entertainment industry executives, labor activists and supporters to benefit the AFTRA Frank Nelson Memorial Sick & Benefit Fund’s mission to provide emergency financial aid and other resources to AFTRA members in crisis. Over the past two years, the Frank Nelson Fund has provided more than $200,000 in emergency grants to AFTRA members for living and healthcare expenses and more than $2.5 million in aid since its incorporation in 1988.

Starting at 11:00 a.m., the fundraiser will kick-off with a putting contest followed by a luncheon, with the tournament’s shotgun start and scramble game beginning at 1:00 p.m. The Frank Nelson Fund will also host an auction and awards dinner following the tournament with entertainment provided by AFTRA member DJ SHY of KIIS-FM.

Tournament foursomes will be paired with celebrity golfers including Gordon Clapp (“NYPD Blue,” “The Game Plan”), Chad Everett (“Medical Center,” “Centennial”), Mitch Gaylord (Olympic Gold Medal Gymnast), Gregory Itzin (“24,” “The Mentalist”), Robert Loggia, (“BIG,” “A Jagged Edge”), Robert Pine ("CHiPs," "The Office"), Christopher Rich (“Reba,” “Murphy Brown”), James B. Sikking (“Fever Pitch,” “Hill Street Blues,” ), Bill Smitrovich (“Iron Man,” “Without a Trace”), Kevin Sorbo ("Hercules," "Andromeda"), Alan Thicke (“The Goods,” “Growing Pains”) and Robert Wuhl (“Arli$$,” “Batman”).
