We, the undersigned employees of Al Jazeera English in the United States, are proud to unite as a community. We’ve chosen a career in international journalism because we believe it is important for citizens of the world to hear each other’s stories. We feel privileged to be able to do this work, to foster dialogue and to inform each member of our audience about the news that matters to them and their daily lives. Our network vision, which we all believe in to our core, is a mission to give a voice to the voiceless. We are now organizing our union to raise our own collective voices to address labor issues including hours of work, uncompensated work, benefits, potential pay disparities, and fair wage increases on an annual basis.

Together we can create conditions at Al Jazeera English that will ensure our concerns are given a voice, and that will in turn improve our collective output. We therefore choose SAG-AFTRA as our union for the purposes of collectively negotiating our pay, benefits and working conditions.

We request that you recognize this petition as a demonstration that SAG-AFTRA represents a majority of employees in a unit appropriate for collective bargaining, and that you meet and confer with us in good faith to begin the collective-bargaining process.
