WJZ-TV reporter and SAG-AFTRA member Alex Demetrick has retired as of June 28, closing the door on 45 years in television newscasting and 35 years as a reporter in Baltimore.
“We will miss his sharp wit and excellent writing,” tweeted WJZ anchor Linh Bui soon after the announcement.
Demetrick grew up in California and attended Cal State and San Jose State universities before getting his start as a reporter. He arrived at WJZ in September 1984 and has been a regular fixture as a general assignment reporter at the station. Demetrick has received awards from United Press International, the Associated Press and Lincoln University.
