A Message from New York Local President Ezra Knight

There has been a lot of excitement in the air, and I have some important news to share.

First, I am over-the-moon excited to announce that our very own former Executive Vice President and New York Local President Rebecca Damon has agreed to join SAG-AFTRA staff as the Executive Director of the SAG-AFTRA New York Local.

A champion for workers’ rights and longtime advocate for SAG-AFTRA members for the past two decades, Rebecca’s list of accomplishments include legislative and administrative advocacy including strengthening New York’s right of publicity law. She is a three-time honoree of City and State’s Labor Power 100 and in 2018 was honored with the New York LaborPress Leadership Award for her outstanding work on behalf of SAG-AFTRA members and her long standing dedication and support of the labor movement. Additionally, she was a recipient of the Irish Echo Connecting America Award, the SAG-AFTRA George Heller Memorial Award gold card, and SAG-AFTRA New York Local’s Joseph C. Riley Award.

Above all, Rebecca is a deeply committed activist whose focus is the well-being of the New York and national membership.

We are fortunate to have Rebecca continue her journey with SAG-AFTRA as a part of our tireless staff team. She was recommended for this important role by a unanimous vote of the New York board of directors. Please join me in congratulating Rebecca and welcoming her in this new role. Take a look at our official union announcement regarding Rebecca’s appointment along with a biography outlining her varied career here.

In other news, last week marked the fifth SAG-AFTRA Biennial Convention – the first to be held virtually. Our delegates spent long days voting on constitutional amendments and resolutions, attending virtual events and electing national vice presidents. I am honored to have been elected as national Vice President, New York. Thank you to all of our delegates for your literal votes of confidence, and for spending hours in front of your computers navigating Zoom.

Your union is here for you. Looking forward to all we are going to accomplish.

Forward together,

Ezra Knight
