The Arizona-Utah Local membership meeting was held April 9 via Zoom. Once again, we traded the face-to-face meeting for a safer option, as everyone’s safety is of primary concern.

The meeting kicked off with a panel of two special guests, who shared the latest information about new incentive bills in both our states: Jeff Johnson, who is president of the Motion Picture Association of Utah as well as a casting director, and Randy Murray, Legislative Committee chair of the Arizona Film & Digital Media Coalition and a production company owner. Jennifer Pfalzgraff, our Local Board member, led the informative panel discussion. Members were encouraged to stay informed and watch for calls to action to keep up the momentum to bring jobs and income to Arizona and Utah.

Arizona-Utah Local President Joe Corcoran called the meeting to order and Local Board member Nancy Hall remembered local members who had passed since our 2021 membership meeting. Corcoran introduced all the board members, and reports were shared by the local president, National Board member and director of locals administration.

It was reported that Fast Company named SAG-AFTRA to its annual World’s Most Innovative Companies list for 2022. Special thanks was given to all those working hard to get SAG-AFTRA to this level and creating such improvements for members.

Members were reminded to take advantage of the many resources SAG-AFTRA has to offer, such as downloading the member app, helping reduce our footprint at sagaftra.org/gogreen, monitoring COVID safety protocols at sagaftra.org/backtowork, reporting sexual harassment at sagaftrasafeplace.org and much more. Other national efforts were reported on, including intimacy coordination, diversity and inclusion, and legislative advocacy on a number of issues.

It was reported that local committees are meeting to address concerns with agents, organizing work and improving communication during this time. Members were encouraged to attend webinars, listen to podcasts, read their emails and take part by volunteering.

President Corcoran closed the meeting by thanking everyone who helped make the membership meeting a success. He also reminded the group that we have now been SAG-AFTRA for 10 years; let’s continue to do our part and progress together into the next decade.
