The Phoenix Film Festival was held April 5–15 at the Harkins Scottsdale 101 in Phoenix, Arizona — and we were there! On April 6, we were there to pick out our booth, set up, decorate and represent SAG-AFTRA for Industry Night. Thank you to Earl Smith, Nancy Hall and Ron Garland for helping with all these preliminaries.
Our booth welcomed dozens of union members and pre-members, connecting them to our local. Visitors were gifted with swag and information on how to join SAG-AFTRA, produce under our low budget agreements and about the upcoming membership meeting with a special regional commercials code presentation open to all.
Special thanks to our National Board member, Margie Ghigo, who manned the booth with the assistance of John Abbott and Marie Stelin. Margie kept busy answering questions about union membership and promoting the contracts available that enable filmmakers to hire professional SAG-AFTRA talent. Margie’s grandson Kobe kept the candy dishes full for those stopping by.
It’s a wonderful venue to present our purpose and meet people in the industry. Those in the mix included actors, producers, costumers, models, consultants, set designers, directors, writers, photographers and the list from A to Z. A band played music from several different eras and we all sang and danced with the karaoke crowd. Cameras picked up all the beautiful peeps that showed up later, catching the excitement and sparkles that our industry is known for.
