Philipps, Star of the TBS Original Series “Cougar Town,” Will Also Serve as SAG Awards® Social Media Ambassador

LOS ANGELES (Nov. 28, 2012) — Busy Philipps, star of the TBS original comedy series "Cougar Town," and Taye Diggs, star of the ABC drama "Private Practice," will reveal the 19th Annual Screen Actors Guild Awards® nominations on Wednesday, Dec. 12. The announcement will be telecast live on TNT at 9 a.m. (ET)/6 a.m. (PT) and webcast live on tnt.tv and tbs.com. SAG-AFTRA Co-President Roberta Reardon and Executive Vice President Ned Vaughn will introduce Phillips and Diggs to the assembled media. Just prior to the nominations announcements, SAG Awards Committee Vice Chair Daryl Anderson and Committee Member Woody Schultz will announce the stunt ensemble honors nominations at 8:50 a.m. (ET) / 5:50 a.m. (PT).

Additionally, Philipps has been named social media ambassador for this year’s SAG Awards. Through posts on Twitter and Facebook, Philipps will serve as the online face for the awards during the six weeks leading up to the live Jan. 27 simulcast on TNT and TBS. She will give viewers access to behind-the-scenes moments, including updates on the production, presenters and fashion. She will also be posting from the red carpet on awards night.

In the hit sitcom “Cougar Town” – which joins TBS' original programming lineup with the launch of the show’s fourth season on Tuesday, Jan. 8 – Philipps plays Laurie, the feisty protégé to realtor Jules Cobb (Courteney Cox). With their group of friends known as the “cul de sac crew,” they support each other through the challenges and pitfalls of life — with a little dysfunction and a whole lot of wine.

In addition to “Cougar Town,” Philipps’ has had TV roles in “Dawson's Creek,” “Freaks and Geeks,” “Undeclared,” “ER,” “Love, Inc.” and “Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.” Film credits include “Made of Honor,” “He’s Just Not That Into You” and “I Just Don’t Know How She Does It.” Her next big-screen role will be opposite Justin Long, Evan Rachel Wood, Brendan Fraser, Peter Dinklage and Sam Rockwell in “A Case of You,” due for release in 2013.

In 2003, Diggs shared the Screen Actors Guild Award for outstanding performance by a motion picture cast for his work in director Rob Marshall’s “Chicago.” A Syracuse University graduate in musical theater, Diggs began his professional career in a Broadway revival production of Rogers & Hammerstein’s “Carousel” and created the role of Benjamin Coffin III in the Tony Award-winning “Rent.” In 2005, he reprised the role for the film version of the musical.

In “Private Practice,” Diggs portrays Dr. Sam Bennett, aka “Dr. Feelgood,” an internist, cardiothoracic surgeon and founding partner of Seaside Heath & Wellness. He originated the role of Bennett in 2007 on ABC’s “Grey’s Anatomy.” Other TV credits include “Ally McBeal,” “The West Wing,” “Kevin Hill,” “Will & Grace” and “Day Break.” Diggs made his feature film debut opposite Angela Bassett in “How Stella Got Her Groove Back.” He will next be seen in the independent feature film “The Trials of Cate McCall” opposite Kate Beckinsale, James Cromwell and Nick Nolte.
