Dear L.A. Local Members,,
You are part of the largest local in SAG-AFTRA with over 80,000 members. Without you there is no national labor action or rally in Los Angeles without our local showing up. You are needed now by our brothers and sisters to protest against Spanish Broadcasting System's refusal to bargain in good faith with SAG-AFTRA for a fair first contract for unionized employees.
Please join me, L.A. First Vice President Frances Fisher (my favorite activist), our national leadership and your fellow members for an important rally on Thursday, Feb. 27 in front of SBS’ Los Angeles office. Members and allies will meet up at SAG-AFTRA Plaza (5757 Wilshire Blvd.) at 11 a.m., and shuttles will be provided for transport to the SBS office down the street at 5055 Wilshire. For those able to walk, it is about a fifteen-minute walk. Parking is validated at SAG-AFTRA Plaza.
In 2016, SBS employees at Los Angeles radio stations Mega 96.3 and La Raza 97.9 voted to unionize and join SAG-AFTRA. Since then, SBS, has refused to bargain in good faith and has even gone so far as to take retaliatory action against employees. We have continued to fight, winning reinstatement for all wrongfully terminated SBS employees, on the brink of trial, and we cannot let up now.
This is a chance to stand together and make our voices heard. Let’s tell SBS CEO Raúl Alarcón Jr. we won’t be bullied and that the hardworking employees of Mega and La Raza deserve a fair first contract. Nuestros hermanos y hermanas ahora los necesitan para protestar la negativa de Spanish Broadcasting Systems (SBS) a negociar de buena fe con SAG-AFTRA por un primer contrato justo para sus empleados sindicalizados.
Únanse a mí, la primera vicepresidenta de LA, Frances Fisher (mi activista favorita), nuestro liderazgo nacional y sus colegas para una importante rally este jueves 27 de febrero frente a la oficina de SBS en Los Ángeles.
