Seeking principal actors able to portray the following:

Male – African American: Kurt (5th grader) – a self-willed introvert with a hunger for learning. Living with only his mother who is always working, he’s has to grow up fast and take on responsibilities most kids his age don’t think about.

Male – African American: Gavón (5th grader) – a young menace who is always bullying Kurt. He’s a bright kid, but he doesn’t take school seriously. The youngest of four brothers (two of whom had run ins with the law) his understanding of resolving issues is through force. WARNING: Strong Language

Female – African American: Ms. Dotson (late 20s) – a passionate mother who had Kurt when she was still in high school. Having a child so young while growing up in an environment that encourages mediocrity, she is naturally pessimistic about the world. She’ll defend her son to the teeth.

Male – African American: Mr. Alton (40s) – a bald man who has worked in the school district for many years. He takes much comfort in his newly acquired administrative job, sometimes too much comfort.

Female – African American: Ms. Davis (mid 20s) - a Teach for America alum, she spends more time these days disciplining than teaching.
