Longtime SAG-AFTRA member and former National Board member George W. Wilson passed away on March 22 at age 88.
Born in Syracuse, New York, he was a graduate of Lafayette Central School and Syracuse University and a retired naval reserve officer with the rank of lieutenant commander.
Wilson began his career in the early ‘50s in Syracuse. He pursued his career as an actor on local stages and appeared in two principal roles on NBC’s SeaQuest DSV and the HBO miniseries From Earth to the Moon. He appeared in a number of industrial films and commercials and in stage plays at various central Florida theaters.
In 1961, Wilson accepted a position in Washington, D.C. where over a period of 20 years, he performed as a D.J., TV weatherman and talk show host, news anchor and film and theater critic. Wilson was also a part of the AFTRA National Board from 1975–1976 and served on the Washington-Baltimore Local Executive Board for some time.
