SAG Foundation’s Catastrophic Health Fund

LOS ANGELES (May 19, 2011) -- The Screen Actors Guild Foundation will host its 2nd Annual Golf Classic, a charity tournament benefiting the non-profit Foundation’s Catastrophic Health Fund.  Hosted by “Criminal Minds” stars Joe Mantegna and Thomas Gibson at El Caballero Country Club in Tarzana, California, the June 13 event brings together Hollywood’s most competitive celebrity golfers to help others.

In its second year, confirmed players in the “Actors Fore Actors” tournament include celebrity enthusiasts Dennis Haysbert, Ray Romano, Tim Allen, Andy Garcia, Kevin Nealon, Michael O’Neill, David Leisure, Tom Bower, Joe Flanigan, Michael Ironside, Richard Karn, Jason Olazabal, Ron Perlman, James Remar, Jackie Flynn, and Gregory Harrison, with new players being added daily.

In addition to 18 holes of competitive play, the day’s activities will include a live auction and an Awards gala where prizes and special honors will be presented.

“The acting community has a long tradition of support of charitable organizations,” said Mantegna. “With the SAG Foundation it gives us the opportunity to practice the adage of charity starting at home. To help us help others, we need to help our own.”

A celebrity host committee has been convened to support the fundraising effort, which includes Scott Bakula, James Casey, Kevin Dobson, Tom Dreesen, Robert Hays, SAG President Ken Howard, David Hutton, Richard Karn, Richard Kind, Ron Perlman, Pamela Reed, Bill Smitrovich and SAG Foundation President JoBeth Williams.

Financial planning services firm Integrated Wealth Management, which supports several charities and community organizations, serves as presenting sponsor. Other supporters include The John W. Carson Foundation, Mercedes-Benz of Beverly Hills, and CBS Television Network.

"Integrated Wealth Management has always believed in sharing success on a community level," says James M. Casey, the firm's president and CEO. "Supporting the SAG Foundation and the Catastrophic Health Fund is a terrific way to support the artistic community, not just as actors, but as people with real-life concerns."

The SAG Foundation offers further opportunities to support the event, including team sponsorship and financial support packages to fit a range of corporate giving budgets. All proceeds from the SAG Foundation Golf Classic go directly to the SAG Foundation Catastrophic Health Fund, which provides financial relief to actors when illness or injury threatens their ability to work as well as their access to affordable health insurance.

President JoBeth Williams underscores the importance of the health fund and other key services the organization provides.

"Because actors' careers are always changing, a number of our most cherished performers have found themselves in need of our Catastrophic Health Fund,” Williams stated. “This and all the SAG Foundation programs are vitally important to champion our actors' lives, careers, and creativity."
