SILVER SPRING (March 7, 2013) – SAG-AFTRA is proud to announce that Co-President Roberta Reardon has been elected to the Board Trustees of the National Labor College (NLC).

Reardon adds this accomplishment to her duties as vice president of the AFL-CIO and also sits on the Arts & Entertainment committee of the New York State Federation of the AFL-CIO, is a board member of the Union Leadership Institute of the Cornell University Institute of Labor Relations, serves on the AFTRA Foundation Board of Directors and is a Trustee for the AFTRA Health & Retirement Funds.

Reardon and Co-President Ken Howard both represent SAG-AFTRA through their participation as vice presidents on the AFL-CIO Executive Council and are Trustees of the Actors Fund.

Per a release made today by the NLC:

Reardon was instrumental in the March 2012 merger of the two unions that represent more than 165,000 actors, announcers, broadcast journalists, dancers, DJs, news writers, news editors, program hosts, puppeteers, recording artists, singers, stunt performers, voiceover artists, and other media professionals. She had been on the AFTRA national board for more than a decade prior to the merger.

“We are proud to have such a strong union leader serve on our Board. We know her vast experience will be an asset as National Labor College continues to expand educational opportunities for labor union men and women across the country, “said AFL-CIO President and Chairperson of the NLC Board of Trustees Richard Trumka.

“National Labor College is in the midst of numerous new endeavors and Roberta is the perfect fit to add to our Board of progressive minds who know that strong unions and education are keys to the success of our country,” said NLC President Dr. Paula E. Peinovich.

The Board of Trustees is the independent governing body of NLC and works to ensure that NLC provides the highest quality education and training programs to its students while remaining fiscally responsible.
