SAG-AFTRA is advising that you should negotiate additional compensation when asked to do non-performance duties when hired to perform at home.
Dear member,
We hope this email finds you healthy and safe.
During the COVID-19 global pandemic, many advertisers are still producing commercials. Instead of showing up to a set or location, performers are being asked to film themselves in their own homes.
The Commercials Contract only covers performances. Other production services, such as hair styling, makeup application, operating cameras, filming, directing and editing, falls under the jurisdiction of our sister unions (e.g. DGA, IATSE and the Cinematographers Guild).
SAG-AFTRA is advising our members: If you are working in your own home and are being asked to provide additional services like those described above, you or your agent should negotiate additional compensation outside of the Commercials Contract to perform these additional duties.
We have communicated this information to agents, the ATA (Association of Talent Agents) and NATR (National Association of Talent Representatives).
If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the Commercials Department in Los Angeles at (323) 549-6858 or in New York at (212) 827-1454. For COVID-19 information, please visit our resources page at sagaftra.org/covid-19.
In unity,
SAG-AFTRA
