The SAG-AFTRA Atlanta Local Board has always strived to represent the best interests of our local membership while supporting the initiatives of our national leadership. Due to the impact of COVID-19, SAG-AFTRA local boards were directed to conserve resources starting mid-March 2020.

The strategy allowed SAG-AFTRA national leadership to focus its resources on COVID relief and federal legislation for members, preservation of core functions and the creation of protocols to provide for a safer workplace during this pandemic. Unfortunately, it also curbed the efforts of member volunteers serving on committees.

I would like to thank every member that stepped forward to serve on our Atlanta Local committees in 2019. The Atlanta Local Board recognizes the disappointment of not being able to fully engage on committees over the last 18 months due to the response to COVID. The 2019–2021 term for Atlanta Local committees ended on Sept. 1, 2021, with most committees not being able to meet, and we fully understand the impact this may have had on your enthusiasm for volunteer work.

In the coming weeks, you will receive instructions on the new term for Atlanta Local committees. I ask you to please consider the unprecedented circumstances surrounding the pandemic and submit an application to volunteer for the 2021–2023 Atlanta Local committees. The Atlanta Local Board encourages members that served on a committee this past term to reapply and other members to consider applying for the first time.

Your decision to "be the change” is how we continue to enhance the strength and influence of SAG-AFTRA in the Atlanta Local market and improve the lives of members and their families.

We need strong member engagement now more than ever.

On behalf of the SAG-AFTRA Atlanta Local Board,

Eric Goins
Atlanta Local President
