The Minnesota Broadcasting Hall of Fame recently named two SAG-AFTRA Twin Cities Local members to its 2013 Hall of Fame roster: Mark Rosen, the popular Twin Cities sports anchor and reporter who has led the WCCO-TV sports team for more than 40 years, and Barry ZeVan, current SAG-AFTRA Twin Cities Local 1st VP and KSTP-TV's legendary "peek-a-boo" weatherman from the mid-1970s. In addition, the Hall of Fame posthumously inducted Eleanor Mondale Poling, a local SAG-AFTRA member who enjoyed a 24-year career in broadcasting, including most recently at WCCO-AM, where she worked as a popular on-air personality before her untimely death in 2011. This year’s Hall of Fame induction ceremony will take place in late September. For details on the event, click here. We congratulate all of the inductees on their accomplishments, but we are especially proud of our local SAG-AFTRA members!

Congratulations to the SAG-AFTRA news team at WCCO-AM Radio for winning three regional Edward R. Murrow Awards from the Radio Television Digital News Association for outstanding achievements in electronic journalism. The WCCO-AM news team captured the largest number of Murrow awards received by any CBS station in the Midwest. The station won Murrow Awards in the following categories: (1) Hard News Reporting, for WCCO's coverage of the historic June flood in Duluth one year ago, (2) Best Newscast, which included coverage of a plane crash in Glencoe, Minn., a fire in the Minneapolis Uptown district and a sex scandal in the Minnesota Senate; and (3) Best News Series, for Behind the Ballot, a multiweek series of daily reports leading up to the November 2012 election that examined individual races, as well as constitutional amendment campaigns on a gay marriage ban and a photo ID requirement for voters (*both amendments failed). The SAG-AFTRA members on the award-winning WCCO news team are Colin Smith, Chris Simon, Edgar Linares, Laura Oakes, Susie Jones, Adam Carter and Steve Murphy. Kudos to all of our WCCO Radio SAG-AFTRAns for their professionalism, excellence and dedication on the job!
