Despite the insane weather (Rain! Sleet! Now sun! Now rain again!), we had an excellent group of SAG-AFTRA members at our returning Coffee Connection gathering on Saturday, May 11, 2024, at Catalyst Coffee in Albuquerque.
Attending members ranged from newly joined to decades-long membership and traveled from as far as Las Cruces. Many board and committee members, including our New Mexico president, Talia Pura, were in attendance.
With coffee in hand, there was lively conversation on topics ranging from what to do when work is slow to living and working in smaller areas of the state. Members swapped tips on self-tape setups and self-producing, and shared many stories about being multihyphenates in this business. A few actors who had been in the business the longest shared stories of coming up in different times. There was a wonderful feeling of camaraderie and many people swapped cards and made connections.
At this first informal meeting, the education committee collected topic ideas for future gatherings. If you have any topics you would like featured at upcoming Coffee Connections, please send an email to nm@sagaftra.org.
In the spirit of strengthening our community and learning from one another, Coffee Connections will be continuing on a monthly basis and will be switching off between Albuquerque and Santa Fe.
Keep your eyes on your inbox for an upcoming invite for the June Coffee Connection — and don’t forget to RSVP. See you there!
