Members Ratify Network TV Code
At its Dec. 8 meeting, the SAG-AFTRA National Board voted to approve the new three-year agreement reached with the four major television broadcast networks (ABC, CBS, NBC and Fox). Members voted to ratify the 2014 SAG-AFTRA National Code of Fair Practice for Network Television Broadcasting (Network Television Code) on Jan. 9. The contract terms became effective Nov. 16, 2014 and runs through June 30, 2018.
The Network Television Code covers syndicated dramatic programs, daytime serials (soap operas), promotional announcements, variety, quiz, game, reality, talk, news, sports and other non-dramatic programs. Employment under the Network Television Code generates more than $200 million a year in covered member earnings. In addition, the agreement covers programming in all television day parts, except for scripted primetime programs on the networks and the CW, and similar programming produced for digital media.
New Animation Agreements in Effect
The 2014 SAG-AFTRA TV Animation Agreement and SAG-AFTRA Basic Cable Animation Agreement were ratified by the SAG-AFTRA National Board at its meetings on Oct. 11 and 12. The new contracts were effective immediately and are retroactive to July 1, 2014, through June 30, 2017. Some of the new deal points of the agreement include pay raises of 8.7 percent, compounded over the next three years, retroactive to Oct. 1 and increased contributions to the pension, health and retirement funds.
