D. Taylor is Int’l President of one of the fastest-growing private-sector unions in the AFL-CIO — UNITE HERE — serving since 2012. A new organizing expert with a track record of results spanning nearly 40 years in the labor movement, President Taylor has overseen UNITE HERE through era-defining events — from years of record-breaking growth — but also harsh challenges such as the election of Donald Trump (and subsequent attacks on the Union’s primarily Black, Brown, immigrant, and woman workforce), or the peak of COVID-19 that forced 98% of the membership in hospitality out of a job. Despite all these hurdles, UNITE HERE today is not only nearly fully recovered from the devastation of a global pandemic — but is organizing thousands of new members while winning historic contracts for current members with significant gains and protections — including powerful language around AI and technology innovations already implemented in hospitality workplaces across the industry.
