The SAG-AFTRA Dallas-Fort Worth Local held its annual membership meeting on Nov. 30 at Sidecar Social. Attendance for the meeting was great, despite the rain and fog.
The evening began with cocktails, small plates and mingling. After exchanging hellos to all who were missed in person over the last few years, attendees moved on to the membership meeting. DFW Local President Nikki Dixon; SAG-AFTRA Vice President, Small Locals Suzanne Burkhead; and National Board member Hector Garcia each gave reports.
Special guests for the evening included member-performer Cedric Sanders, Tulsa Film Commissioner Meg Gould and SAG-AFTRA Chief Negotiator Ray Rodriguez. Sanders and Gould each held a Q&A with Dixon. Sanders’ presentation focused on living and working in Los Angeles, and his decision to move home to Texas. He talked about being a father and a husband while balancing his career, and how he continues to work and audition just as much before the move.
Gould, formerly with the Dallas Film Commission, gave insight into the ever-growing Oklahoma market and her new role as Tulsa Film Commissioner in the Oklahoma Office of Film, Music Arts and Culture.
A Q&A with Rodriguez followed, who attended the meeting in person to answer members' questions about the 2023 TV/Theatrical Contracts tentative agreement.
The local concluded the meeting with a pinning ceremony of new members. We are so happy you are here!
We appreciate all our guests' knowledge and time, and seeing DFW Local members in person was lovely! Thank you for coming out.
