Dancers

The SAG-AFTRA Conservatory monthly program An Actor’s Evening held a special panel at SAG-AFTRA Plaza on May 1 focusing entirely on the life of union dancers. Moderated by L.A. Local Conservatory Committee member Lee Garlington, the panel included seasoned dancer Palmer Davis; L.A. Local Dancers Committee members Tracy Takahashi, Cassidy Noblett and Teresa Espinosa; L.A. Local Dancers Committee Chair Danielle Towne; and Music Department business representative Janee Lynch.

Through the discussion and Q&A, members learned key details about how the union serves the dance community. Staff members in the Music Department represent union dancer members. Despite some members’ confusion, professional dancers are always principal performers under SAG-AFTRA contracts. If any safety issues arise on set, dancers, like all union members, are encouraged to contact the 24-hour Safety Hotline (844) SAFER SET, (844) 723-3773, and are reminded that any reporting remains anonymous to production.
