I recently spent some time exploring the SAG-AFTRA website and found a wealth of information useful to working members — especially to members who work only intermittently and tend to forget details about specific contracts.
On the home page, under the “Contracts” tab for instance, I went looking for information about a potential commercial gig and found in the drop-downs both documents and helpful video tutorials about contracts, job site rules, current rates, signatories and more, on many related topics. Click here.
If you have time to browse the website, you will see that most of your questions about any type of job covered by a SAG-AFTRA contract can probably be answered using the “self-help” materials on the website. Check out the SAG-AFTRA Production Center.
I encourage you to take time to get familiar with and regularly use this online resource; it will make you feel a bit more educated about your union contracts and more empowered when you get hired for that next union job — and it’s an important resource given the absence of a local office.
