Los Angeles (August 14, 2006)—Screen Actors Guild, Actors’ Equity Association, American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA), American Guild of Musical Artists and American Guild of Variety Artists are advised that AFTRA does NOT have a contract with any programs made for the soon-to-be-launched Retirement Living network. The working titles of the shows currently in development are Amazing Seniors, The Doctor’s Hour, The Voice and Living Well.
SAG, AEA, AFTRA, AGMA and AGVA members may NOT accept employment in these productions without an AFTRA contract. AFTRA has been advised that should a member, deemed worthy by the network, hold firm and insist upon AFTRA coverage, the company will break down and sign a contract.
AFTRA has been in negotiations with the network, Retirement Living TV, LLC, based in Columbia, Maryland since early June. In fact, three AFTRA members had tentative offers for long-term hosting positions when talks broke down, and AFTRA was informed that the network would launch without signing an AFTRA agreement. AFTRA accommodated every need expressed by the company including matching the non-contract rates offered performers.
The network will initially consist of four hours of programming on Comcast’s CN8 channel. The scheduled launch date is September 5. Please note that the company has segment producers in both New York and Los Angeles, in addition to Maryland so offers of employment could come from any one of these production centers.
