SAG-AFTRA | Netflix DEI Dubbing Workshop Opens ADR Booth Doors
On April 26, 15 SAG-AFTRA members participated in a free dubbing workshop hosted by SAG-AFTRA and Netflix. The SAG-AFTRA | Netflix DEI Dubbing Workshop, held at Roundabout Entertainment in Burbank, was part of a series of in-person events aimed at helping to build a pipeline of diverse talent with live-action dubbing experience. The Los Angeles-based program gives participants hands-on instruction recording scenes with Netflix’s dubbing creative leads.
“Events like this workshop that create an opportunity for diverse talent to get in the door are important, especially for those in the disability community,” said National Performers with Disabilities Committee Vice Chair Nicole Cyrille. “Performers with disabilities continue to fight to be considered for on-camera work, and voiceover is a great space for us to perform and earn money as an actor and where we are included."
David Errigo Jr., chair of the Dubbing Consulting Steering Committee, noted the program is an opportunity for members to “get in the booth, do a read, chat about what it is to dub and learn.” He added that these workshops have resulted in many landing employment opportunities.
“Out of the four sessions we’ve had, which involves around fifteen individuals per session, eleven actors have actually gotten work from this opportunity,” said Errigo Jr.
