Via mainstream acting theories and techniques, proven exercises and improvisation, students are exposed to the stylish and technical demands of camera performance. With emphasis on the ensemble and exposure, today’s audition obligations, to understanding how multi-media training relates to a 21st century actor, we will explore, challenge, and apply the vernacular, etiquette, discipline, and nuance of acting, and note how the process of storytelling applies to the actor.

Self-Producing 101: From Pre- to Post- & Everything In-between Part 5

Have you been daunted by self-producing or are you an old hat? Self-Producing 101 will delve
into everything pre-production, production, and post-production to give you a template for how
to be prepared at each level of your filmmaking. Featuring Q&As at the end of each session,
bring your notepads and questions and get ready to create your own work!

PART 5: DAVINCI RESOLVE EDITING -- DIVE INTO THE EDIT

  • A 1-hr Explainer + 1-hr Deep Dive Q&A into the DaVinci Resolve editing software. The basics of editing and recording voice-over, and various cool tricks.

Advanced Scene Study & Audition Technique

Through the lens of the self-tape audition, we'll focus on what you can do to bring your work to the next level. Please bring a TV/Film scene not more than 2 minutes in length (about 2 pages). Up to 8 participants will have the opportunity to work on a scene.

Advanced Screenwriting

Only for the month of May, this class will meet at 12:15 p.m. - 2:15 p.m., instead of the usual 2:30 p.m. - 4:30 p.m. The class is expected to return to its usual 2:30 p.m. time slot in June.

Michigan Local May Conservatory

SAG-AFTRA members in Michigan are invited to join us on the next installment of our conservatory series.  

Our spring conservatory will be held at Productions Plus in Bingham Farms, MI.  

We will be discussing how to navigate casting sites and more tips for audition readiness. The Productions staff will also be working with members on group scenes from commercials.

SF-NC Conservatory Let the Script Be Your Guide Workshop

Where: Phoenix Annex (Native Sons Building) 414 Mason Street, 6th Floor, Ste. 604, San Francisco, CA

This is a hands-on workshop which includes scripted scene work, and will give practical tools for preparing for a film shoot, script analysis during rehearsal, ways of getting off-book quickly, making strong choices for cold reading, finding the tempo of a scene and much more.

This workshop is designed to explore the foundations of a practical approach to unlocking the secrets of any script for actors at all levels and will help participants create a foundation for a way of working no matter what one’s approach or training may be. 

Note: Class size is limited to 60 members

• Space is limited and accepted on a first-come, first-serve basis.

• As a courtesy to members on the waiting list, if you have reserved a space in this workshop and cannot attend, please cancel your reservation by 5 p.m. on the day before the workshop. Failure to do so will result in the inability to attend future workshops.

• There is no charge for this event.

Directions/Parking: Public transportation is available and encouraged. (BART and MUNI - Powell Street Station). Self-pay parking is available at the Sutter/Stockton or Ellis/O'Farrell garages.

BOBBY WEINAPPLE is a professional actor, director and teacher in the San Francisco Bay Area. On-camera credits include dozens of commercials, industrials and independent films, as well as guest starring roles on Nash Bridges and Trauma and a featured role in La Mission with Benjamin Bratt. He has also worked at most of the region's major theatres, including the Tony award-winning Berkeley Repertory Theatre, ACT, and TheaterWorks. In 1996 he received a Drama-Logue Award for Principal Performance for his performance in Lady Be Good with 42nd Street Moon. As a teacher, he has been a faculty member for eight years with the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, and currently heads the San Francisco branch of Seydways/Weinapple Music Studios, one of San Francisco’s premier acting studios. Since 2007, he has also worked as a corporate consultant, working with companies around the world as a coach, trainer and facilitator.
