This class is designed to help students achieve a successful commercial audition in a fun and informative environment. The class consists of working with Commercial copy board and hand held paper copy. Various techniques are used to achieve a natural, honest, and unique audition. Improvisation techniques may also be used. Students may bring their own material or use commercial copy available. Auditions are played back and reviewed.

Via mainstream acting theories and techniques, proven exercises and improvisation, students are exposed to the stylish and technical demands of camera performance. With emphasis on the ensemble and exposure, today’s audition obligations, to understanding how multi-media training relates to a 21st century actor, we will explore, challenge, and apply the vernacular, etiquette, discipline, and nuance of acting, and note how the process of storytelling applies to the actor.

Breathwork & Awareness

This class will focus on wellness techniques to be present and calm the mind. 

Structure 
Beginning with a simple introduction breathwork, I will introduce basic Alexander Technique - a gentle practice to change movement habits in everyday activities. We will begin a discussion on who has experience with these topics and their thoughts. We will explore the ways that acting and awareness go hand-in-hand. We will touch upon additional techniques, i.e. Wim Hof, Transcendental Meditation and Qi Gong.

Join Shelley Waggener for a self-tape audition workshop designed to tackle the most common challenges actors face. Whether you're new to the process or want to hone your skills, this dynamic class features an interactive discussion and Q&A session, followed by a personalized review of your self-tapes. You will gain valuable insights to sharpen your auditions and stand out!

Join the SAG-AFTRA LA Conservatory for Emotional Freedom Technique For Performance.

Learn an effective tool professional athletes and performers use to eliminate negative energy and optimize the mind and body for optimal performance! EFT TAPPING (tapping on the acupoints of the body's meridian system) resolves blocked energy for true emotional freedom in role exploration and performance.


Please note: You will receive your Zoom information the day before the meeting from SAG AFTRA LA Local. If you have trouble joining the Zoom meeting, please email conservatory@sagaftra.org.

Description:

This is an eight week intensive course.


You must be available for the following dates in order to take this class:

Once you are registered for this initial course on April 28, you will be automatically registered for the rest of the dates listed above. Please read the course description carefully before registering.

Join Caryn West for Scene Study: From Table Read To Performance!


Take a deep dive into 2 characters in 2 scenes, from script analysis to a full footing and guest pro giving final feedback.


Focus on process and wonderful failures/lessons, stretching outside of your comfort zone, overcoming rust and De-emphasis on Results.


Work on 2 scenes/2 scene partners, luxuriously and slowly over 3-4 weeks.


Class One: Bring a monologue, song or dance to introduce and celebrate yourself. Movement and vocal warm-ups. Introductions and scenes assigned.


Class Two: Table reads and text analysis without self tape result speed. The event, your roles function, genre, the Writer and listening.


Class Three: Warm-up and first footings, exploring the character in body and space, personalization and being present.


Class Four: Guest Pro if available. Fully memorized. Staged with props and costume.


Class Five to Eight: Repeat with a new scene/partner.


Note: This is not a beginner course, Actors need to rehearse outside of the class to prepare scenes. This is for actors who want to have fun and explore without judgment. Actors are encouraged to stretch with characters they may not get cast as and re-examine or revive their process with support you deserve.


Also, Caryn West can also provide quiet rehearsal  space for you and your partners in her WeHo Studio Space (90 min at a time 2 x week) upon request and an online appt. time.

Directions:
Bring a monologue, song or dance to introduce and celebrate yourself. Wear comfortable clothes for movement. Bring a headshot/resume for scene assignments.


Rehearsals will be expected with your assigned scene partner to rehearse through the course.

Dive into your natural reactions through class exercises that focus on organic processes and strip away any vices that could be holding you back while allowing you to break down a script in 5 minutes to align your thinking with the person hiring you: the director. Learn to work strategically and authentically as you uncover formulas that ensure strong choices so you can stand out and book.

Attendees are encouraged to bring a notebook or laptop for note taking. Please dress in comfortable clothing that would allow for movement.
