"Marcia Fishman has been our staff liaison for the Michigan Local for over a decade, first with SAG and, most recently, SAG-AFTRA. She has been an overwhelming advocate and often the lone voice in the room when speaking on our behalf. Marcia has recently announced that she will be retiring to Northern California," said Peter Tocco, National Board member for Michigan.
"While we wish her well, I can’t help but think about how I will miss my friend. All of us who worked closely with her will miss her. Never in all my 30 years in SAG-AFTRA have I met someone who works so hard for our membership. Marcia’s life has been devoted to the service of others, including her charity work with Forgotten Harvest, a nonprofit organization that she and her sister founded; reading to inner-city schoolchildren about her blind and deaf dog named Rudolph who teaches kids about celebrating their differences; and all of the countless hours of union work this wonderful champion has done for SAG-AFTRA. This past convention, we, the membership, bestowed one of the highest honors from our union to Marcia Fishman: The George Heller Memorial Award. Marcia was totally surprised as she received her SAG-AFTRA gold card. Surprised, because she didn’t expect to be recognized for her years of service to others, which makes her the perfect honoree. The membership will miss you, Marcia. We thank you for all that you have done for us."
