On Sept. 19, SFFILM FilmHouse hosted San Francisco-Northern California Local business representatives for a contract seminar with its resident filmmakers. The “makers” arm of SFFILM is home to up-and-coming filmmakers receiving grants for their own projects. SF-NorCal Local member Liz Anderson, currently a resident filmmaker, served as liaison and suggested helping her fellow directors/producers learn in further detail how to cast her fellow union members.
SAG-AFTRA staff members Frank Simeone, Lea Hausherr and Dee Dee Escobedo walked the group of filmmakers through the particulars of the SAG-AFTRA collective bargaining agreements, emphasizing the accessibility of the Short Project Agreement and Ultra Low Budget contract for those new to the process. In addition, they covered the Commercials and Co/Ed contract particulars, so as attendees’ careers expand into different areas of the industry, they would be familiar with how to continue to hire union talent for each project.
