During the 2023 SAG-AFTRA National Convention, with the theme “Future Forward — Union Power,” member delegates received a special message of support from First Lady Dr. Jill Biden.
In a pre-taped message, Biden recognized the historic work of actors as storytellers, and praised the determination members have shown throughout the ongoing TV/Theatrical/Streaming strike.
She reiterated the White House’s commitment to union workers: “Your work makes our country stronger and gives people courage, community and hope. I know that what you’re doing isn’t easy, but I know you’ll keep fighting because it’s who you are. Joe and I stand with you today, tomorrow and for all the days to come.”
On Oct. 21, SAG-AFTRA’s strike against the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers reached a 100-day milestone. That same day, it was announced that the SAG-AFTRA TV/Theatrical Negotiating Committee would reconvene with the AMPTP on Tuesday, Oct. 24. The strike continues with pickets and other events taking place across the country.
