Have a passion project you want to produce? Have a friend who wants to cast you in theirs? Know a filmmaker who wants to hire you? How can you work on these as a union member? SAG-AFTRA’s Micro Budget Agreement could be the answer! The Micro provides a streamlined signatory process for independent producers with a project budget of $20,000 or less per picture (or per episode of episodic projects). Projects can be student or short films, features or web series.
Most terms of the Micro are subject to negotiation between producer and performer, and this agreement does not create eligibility to join the union. Projects must be shot entirely in the United States. They can be screened in a variety of ways, including film festivals, demos, classrooms and on free-to-consumer new media (AVOD). Projects that don’t qualify for the Micro include those with hazardous stunts, nudity or simulated sex, or projects where the producer has received compensation for the right to distribute or exhibit it.

The application and approval process for the Micro is quick, painless, and entirely online. Visit sagaftra.org/microform 24/7 to get the project you want to work on signed to a union contract today!
