An emergency rule amendment has been unanimously approved by the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Committee (IWCCC) that provides workers’ comp protection for essential workers who were previously exempted from the stay at home requirements in Executive Order 20-10.
The rule provides essential employees who contract COVID-19 with a rebuttable presumption that it’s causally connected to their employment. The intent is to provide COVID-19 presumptive workers’ comp coverage for all essential workers identified in Executive Order 20-10. The governor clarified during his press conference on Monday that our broadcast members are considered essential workers.
SAG-AFTRA and our labor partners have been advocating for this protection and we are grateful for Governor Pritzker’s support of it.
