On behalf of the more than 1,900 members of Screen Actors Guild-American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA) that live and work in Massachusetts, we strongly support the Massachusetts film and TV tax credit. It creates jobs and it drives economic activity in the state, especially for the myriad of small businesses that support production in Massachusetts.

Gov. Baker’s budget proposal to eliminate the tax credit hits working men and women where it hurts. Thousands of jobs are at risk, including those of the more than 3,000 performers of the SAG-AFTRA New England Local — and this isn’t just an entertainment industry concern. These losses will undoubtedly reverberate through the state’s economy, and that’s bad news for all Massachusetts residents.

You don't have to hurt working families to help working families.

SAG-AFTRA has been in close contact with industry partners to develop a strategic plan to fight this. We have faced challenges in the past, but as this proposal is to eliminate the credit, not just cap it, we now have a real fight on our hands.

SAG-AFTRA members will soon be asked to take specific action. Please keep an eye on our eblasts for up-to-date information.
