Film Tax Credit: State Budget & H.62 Update and Action Alert!

On Friday, Governor Baker signed the state budget for FY 2016, which preserves the film tax incentive in its current form, without changes or amendment.

However, our work is not done to keep film jobs in Massachusetts, and our industry strong and growing.

The debate on the film production incentive continues at the State House. The original bill, H. 62, to repeal the law is still alive and sits before the Joint Revenue Committee.

Yet in spite of legislative and broad public support, some local media outlets still don’t seem to understand the real value the Film Tax Incentive brings to the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.

Your incredible efforts, coordinated through your union and our industry allies, have had an amazing impact on this debate and the future of the film industry in Massachusetts. Together we have scored some major victories this year and changed the narrative in this state about the value of a robust and viable film industry. Yet while we have turned a corner, we must continue to urge our state legislators to oppose efforts to eliminate or undermine the film production incentive.

Please use the link below to contact your State Senator and State Representative to 1) thank them for their support of the film incentive program, and 2) urge them to have the Legislature’s Joint Revenue Committee oppose H. 62, and efforts to undermine the incentive program that creates jobs, and supports local businesses across the Commonwealth.
