Statement of Massachusetts Production Coalition on Massachusetts Budget That Creates Jobs

BOSTON – Margie Sullivan, President of the Massachusetts Production Coalition today issued the following statement on the budget being considered by the House and Senate today.

“The film and television tax incentive creates and supports thousands of jobs throughout Massachusetts and provides a valuable boost to thousands of local businesses. We’re glad to see a budget today that recognizes the importance of film and television jobs to our economy, and avoids making changes to the vital program.

Throughout this debate, we’ve stressed that Massachusetts doesn’t have to put one group of people out of work to help another group struggling to get ahead, and we applaud the Conference Committee members and House and Senate leadership for finding a way to expand the earned income tax credit for working families without impacting the film and television tax incentive.

The film tax credit and the earned income tax credit both provide an economic boost for Massachusetts by putting more money in the hands of working people, who will spend it in their local economies. Money generated by the film and television industry in Massachusetts also provides a valuable boost to thousands of local small businesses, including diners, caterers, hardware stores, lumber yards, printing companies, cleaning companies, hotels, and countless others. The Legislature deserves credit for saving Massachusetts film jobs with a budget agreement that will drive our economy forward.”
