As you know, several amendments to the state budget were filed in the State Senate this week to end the film production incentive.
Yesterday, the Massachusetts State Senate began its debates on the state budget, and has passed language to create a "Special Commission" to make a report regarding the film tax incentive. This compromise language is a significant victory given the original amendments would have fully ended the MA film production incentive—YOUR emails and phone calls to your state legislators are clearly having an impact!
The House budget includes no changes to the film tax incentive. After the Senate finishes debates on the budget, the House and Senate will convene to create a final budget. However, Governor Charlie Baker's H. 62 bill remains on the Revenue Committee.
NEXT STEPS
With the Special Commission being passed by the Senate and H. 62 still active, our battle in Massachusetts continues. We must continue to contact our State Legislators to keep film jobs in Massachusetts. Our Save MA Film Jobs campaign will be in touch with you very soon with the next steps in our efforts to keep film jobs in Massachusetts.
