The holidays can be stressful and with a global pandemic upending our lives, it is doubly so. The good news is that a vaccine appears to be on its way in the coming months. For now, however, we are seeing spikes in new infections across the country, directly affecting the ability for many to return to work.

While COVID fatigue is understandable, it is important not to let our guard down. We are all anxious for this to be over, but how soon that happens is up to each of us.

Our union has worked with sister unions and employers to craft back-to-work protocols for our safety. It is mandatory that members follow these rules and report to the union if employers are failing to uphold their responsibilities. Likewise, it's important for us to remain safe and vigilant while away from the workplace. At this writing, multiple productions are shut down because of positive testing on set — and this is without the added risk posed by holiday travel and gatherings that will take place in the coming days.

With the holidays approaching, please consider carefully whether it’s necessary to travel and/or attend face-to-face gatherings. There are numerous reports of instances where a single group event has spread infection into the community, including to those who didn’t attend.

Please, always wear a mask, practice social distancing and wash your hands. Collective diligence is the only way to protect ourselves, our families and colleagues. We are all in this together, and we can only get through this together.

Stay safe.
