I hope you are staying safe and healthy. We are living in such incredible times – I am looking for that silver lining.
I believe that one way to achieve something positive out of this moment is to support the Justice in Policing Act of 2020. This police reform bill is a crucial part of creating the systemic change that we all know is necessary. It includes provisions to ban chokeholds and no-knock warrants, to establish a national police misconduct registry, to collect data and improve investigations into police misconduct, to promote de-escalation practices, to establish comprehensive training programs, and to update and enhance standards and practices.
Aloe Blacc has brought together music industry leaders and your fellow SAG-AFTRA members Seal, Rhianna, Justin Bieber, Lizzo, Billie Eilish, Mariah Carey and more. I am reaching out to ask you and our acting community to also sign on to this bill for police reform. I have a draft of the letter we are endorsing in support of the Justice In Policing Act 2020. This letter will be finalized and sent to Speaker Pelosi and Leader McCarthy on Monday, June 22.

Please take this important step toward equity and add your name to the list of people who are mobilizing to demand justice. Sign now to urge the House of Representatives to vote “yes” on the Justice in Policing Act of 2020. And, please reach out to other actors you know asking them to sign on.
We need to hear from all signers by Sunday night as the letter will be finalized and delivered on Monday. I know this is a tight time frame but the bill goes to the floor next week and we must act quickly to ensure our voices are heard.
