Last year, the SAG-AFTRA dance community and Dancers’ Alliance launched a powerful organizing campaign via social media that resulted in a breakthrough SAG-AFTRA dancers contract. To build upon these efforts and with the great support of SAG-AFTRA member Justin Timberlake, dancers on his current world tour, The 20/20 Experience, are now covered by a union contract. The digital campaign #UnionizeTours, coupled with outreach from this constituency, educated the dance community about the importance of having union coverage while on tour and the vital benefits dancers receive when working under a SAG-AFTRA contract. For the first time, these performers will be covered under the SAG-AFTRA Touring Agreement and will make earnings that count toward their pension and health plans during the entire tour. The agreement was made possible through a collaborative effort on behalf of SAG-AFTRA dancers, Dancers’ Alliance, SAG-AFTRA Organizing and Sound Recordings departments, Justin Timberlake and SAG-AFTRA President Ken Howard.
