On Jan. 14, 2023, the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor hosted its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day Breakfast at the InterContinental Hotel in Los Angeles. This marked its first in-person breakfast in two years. This year’s theme celebrated the “Past, Present and Future” of the civil rights and labor movements.
The breakfast was attended by more than 1,200 people, including SAG-AFTRA staff and members. National and L.A. Local Board member Yvette Nicole Brown served as the special guest host for the festivities. Brown interviewed Mayor Karen Bass on the influence of past labor leaders and the importance of the labor movement in Los Angeles. Bass is the first female mayor of the city.
The breakfast included many other powerful speakers from various unions as well as government and community leaders. The event showed the heart of the Los Angeles community and the vital importance of labor unions and the working members that keep it running.
