President’s Report
Los Angeles Local President Jodi Long was excited to report on the highly anticipated inter-union event which will be held in May through the Los Angeles Local Member Outreach Relations and Engagement Committee (MORE). This will be a time for elected leaders of entertainment unions and elected public officials to mix and mingle while discussing the pressing issues of the industry.
Executive Director’s Report
L.A. Local Executive Director Serena Kung gave a brief overview of the upcoming events that the Los Angeles Local will be hosting through various committees and initiatives. Among the events taking place in the coming weeks is the annual Los Angeles Local membership meeting. This year, Kung shared that the meeting would be geared toward members being able to ask more questions. The typical expo, where members get to meet the various departments and staff of the union, will be piloted as an open house in the fall. Kung then spoke to the union’s efforts to lower permitting fees.
Committee Reports
Several local committees submitted reports and proposals, including category representative events, continued legislative efforts in the world of A.I, various new technology ideas, how to engage members in contract education, and ways to provide support and community for the Los Angeles membership. Copies of the newly updated Background Actors Digest, which was created by the Background Actors Committee, were made available.
