The fourth virtual Los Angeles Local Board meeting was held on Aug. 8. Administrative, strike and negotiation updates were given for the upcoming months.
The L.A. Local Board received reports, including:
President’s Report
Jodi Long addressed negotiations and the impact of the strike. She also commented on the widespread effect this movement is having and the significant increase in membership engagement.
Long welcomed First Vice President Sheryl Lee Ralph to give brief remarks. Ralph told the board members that the work SAG-AFTRA is doing is helping other unions as well. She said, “We are a part of an instrumental, wonderful change.”
L.A. Local Executive Director’s Report
Los Angeles Local Executive Director Serena Kung provided an update on the daily logistics at strike headquarters. Over 100 staff members are actively working on strike-related tasks everyday, hundreds of members have volunteered to train to be strike captains or gate captains, and many other members volunteer their time by signing up to help put together picket signs and fold shirts for the lines.
Negotiation & Strike Update
Local Vice President David Jolliffe gave an update on negotiations and the nature of the strike. Jolliffe called the strike a, “seminal moment where we have all come together for one cause.” He detailed the Interim Agreement and its upcoming webinar. Jolliffe explained why the agreement is a strategic and necessary tool.
The L.A. Local Board finished its meeting by thanking the SAG-AFTRA staff that has helped the board this past term.
