More than 500 L.A. Local members attended the 2023 L.A. Local membership meeting, held virtually on May 13. 

L.A. Local President Jodi Long welcomed members and introduced her fellow officers for brief remarks. First Vice President Sheryl Lee Ralph encouraged members to stay informed during this crucial time of preparing for negotiations. 

Second Vice President David Jolliffe gave an educational presentation on the TV/Theatrical negotiations process, which included the wages and working conditions meetings, proposal refinement and then negotiation meetings with the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers, which are scheduled to begin June 7. During his remarks, he emphasized that unity among the committee members would be SAG-AFTRA’s greatest strength.

SAG-AFTRA National Executive Director Duncan Crabtree-Ireland expressed his gratitude for all of the member participation at the Writers Guild picket lines and shared that he expects SAG-AFTRA will continue to support the WGA and the DGA through their negotiations with the AMPTP.  

SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher and Secretary-Treasurer Joely Fisher also gave brief remarks welcoming the local membership, with Fisher expressing her excitement for the future with the purchase of a new headquarters for SAG-AFTRA. 

L.A. Local Executive Director Serena Kung thanked attendees for their engagement and eagerness to learn about their union. She encouraged members to get involved and stay involved, and updated the membership on the L.A. Local committees’ efforts to resume programming as soon as possible. 

As with all L.A. Local membership meetings, the remaining time was set aside for members to ask questions and make comments.
