John Nordlum passed away on Jan. 31. He was 81 years old.

He devoted nearly a lifetime to serving as an officer and board member of the SAG (1988–2012) and SAG-AFTRA (2012–2017) Hawaii offices. He chaired the Safety and Stunt Committee while serving on the board. He also was the founder and president of the Hawaii Stunt Association.

With a career nothing short of admirable, John worked as a stunt double and stand-in for Jack Lord in the original Hawaii Five-0 and then for Tom Selleck in the original Magnum, P.I. When the original Hawaii Five-0 television series ended, Lord gave John the 1974 Mercury Marquis used on the show. The still-operable car was used in the current Hawaii Five-0 in several episodes.

“He was a man of his word, integrity, selflessness and humble loyalty,” said Colin Fong, vice president of the Hawaii Stunt Association.

“He was honorable,” said Nordlum’s wife Lori.

He will be greatly missed. A hui hou! Until we meet again!
