Aloha Hawaii Sisters and Brothers:

Perhaps by the time you read this, you may have already seen the recorded greetings made by all the local presidents, including me, as part of the union’s Zoom recording session with presidents. If not, here’s what I had to say in addition to wishing everyone a happy new year:
I’m grateful for our family’s survival and seeing new hope for the future of our union, our democracy, our economy and our collective health.

In 2020, I’ve learned something new about you, our Hawaii brothers and sisters. You are incredibly strong and resilient and positive. Looking forward to the rest of 2021, I’m hoping for more work for our members under current or the least restrictive but safe conditions and that the enforced opportunities that other major world catastrophes have offered before will result in a better world, once this plague has passed.

A shout-out again to our extraordinary executive director, Mericia Palma Elmore, who continues to serve above and beyond the call of duty. She is still here, working diligently, maintaining connections with our local industry partners and board and officers, performing all essential and core functions, and assisting her colleagues around the country where she can.

In the meantime, to all of you and your ohana, stay safe as possible and we’ll see you in the new year.

Me ke aloha pumehana and in solidarity and looking forward,

David C. Farmer
