Dear Portland Local Members,
An important part of being an effective leader is having strong, smart people surrounding you. I've been so very fortunate as a leader to have Harold Phillips by my side, educating me, supporting me, and giving me counsel and an ear whenever I needed it.
When Harold recently informed me that he would be moving north to be closer to family, I knew the thought and care that went into his decision was immense. He has been so deeply involved with our Portland Local and he leaves a HUGE hole and very big shoes to fill. Although he is moving, he will always be a part of our family and he won't be able to help himself — I know he will still find ways to share in our journey and impart his wisdom whenever he can!
Part of the hole that Harold leaves is a spot on our Local Board and his position as vice president. Last week, the Portland Local Board voted to approve the executive committee's recommendation to appoint Scott Rogers to the open vice president position. Scott has served over 40 years in the union in many different roles and on a plethora of committees.
Please join me in welcoming Scott to the Portland Local Board at our annual membership meeting on Wednesday. We hope to see you there!
